Oct 6 - watching the Doppler

I wish I could fast forward this thing so that whatever happens is behind us. At this point, 6am Friday, Matthew is still south and east of us, but not by much, just off Canaveral.  As long as it continues that path and doesn't bobble westward (which these things do), we will escape destruction.  I don't want to think about Beachside, however that patch would spare them the worst of storm surge and waves.

Our power in FL went off around 2:30 a.m.  I got an email report from my security system and then later from the three thermostats.  At 4am an email came in from my modem, so the house is still there ! and the modem is running on the UPS.  I have no idea how long that can last but if the power is still out, I wouldn't expect something at 4am tomorrow.  Crews won't be able to start restoring power until this thing is past and it's safe to work outside.

I did some packing yesterday -- one bike in the trailer along with a few other things.  Sandy made a relatively short trip to Sudbury; that stuff is still in her car as it's destined for Florida.  I also went for a short bike ride, 20 miles to stretch my legs.

I finished up the cleanup of that boat ramp, taking the cut-up pieces up to the burn pile and burning it.  I also drained gas out of the power washer, chainsaw and trimmer and they're all in my workroom now.

Jason, Lorraine & Kim left around 2pm yesterday; their close-up routine completed.  It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm; they hated to leave but have something going on today so they had no choice.

Just heard from Harris from our street in Florida -- his comment -- "boring".  Well, with the eye still south and east, I'm hoping that he still says boring in a few hours !

Onward !
