Oct 8/9 - home again

We left Reading about noon, stopping in Wilmington DE at Moore Bros wine store.  I'd cleared some space for wine in the trunk by moving a couple of things to the trailer.  Two more cases of wine, making that four, we continued to Emporia VA and our planned overnight.

Leaving Emporia at 7:30 a.m., we were home at 5pm.  It took us a couple of hours to open the place up, unload the car and trailer and head out for dinner.  Since we also had to pick up a couple of things at Publix (eggs and milk primarily), we went to Off the Hook in that same mall.  Unfortunately the SYC is closed Monday and Tuesday but we did have to hit Publix anyway.

The satellite dish is definitely dead.  It hit the ground hard and the arm is bent, the LNB broken.  I'll contact "Satellite Guys" today and see if he can scrounge up another dish for me.

The dock is even further lifted up at the one corner than it was last year ... I'll have to do something about that.

It's obvious that the water came very close to coming into the house but perhaps that would have required a foot more water.  The kitchen sliders are the lowest level ... not sure what we could do about those.  I suppose that the front door is the same elevation but it would be further away from any water coming from the ICW.  The garage is 6" lower ... What we might have done had we been here and seeing the water creeping up, we'll never know (or I hope that we'll never know !).  Apparently the surge got here at high tide, which is why it came so close.

Across the way, we can see the SYC floating dock sitting halfway on the shore and in the water.  Obviously it floated up and over and without something to push it back out as the water receded, it's found an awkward resting place.  I'll have to take some pictures for posterity, hoping that it will never happen again !

Onward !
