We landed at 9:20 or so and our luggage was coming out on the carousel very shortly after that. With just shy of 500 people on the A-something airbus, however, luggage takes a while to unload. We took at taxi to the hotel which turned out to be a little more expensive than expected because they put us into a maxi-cab, which adds to your rate. We would have fit into a normal cab but what the heck.
We felt more rested than flying to Europe since the night was so long. We'd both dozed on and off, Sandy more so than me, which helped her get caught up. The hotel had our room ready, thank goodness, and we got organized and went for a walk. I'm not walking very well, really strained those tendons at the front of the feet that lift them up, chasing after the Avis bus. We walked all the way to the waterfront, 2+ miles each way. I wasn't sure if I was going to have to take a cab back but that's because I'm a wimp. It didn't feel like I could lift my feet and my walking wasn't exactly smooth ... will I be ready for this bridge climb tomorrow ? I sure hope so !
We picked up groceries on the way back, and wine of course. We're staying in an apartment hotel so we have a full kitchen albeit not a suite so the bedroom cannot be closed off. I'm typing in the dark now, having gotten up at 4am. Sandy was awake but has gone back to sleep. Actually, all things considered, if I'm getting up at 4am then I'm pretty well switched over to this time zone, the time 8 hours behind (forget that ahead business).
So if I send an email across the date line when does it get there ? That boggles the mind. I guess that if it gets there yesterday, then we've learned how to do time travel. My laptop says that it's 1:34 pm on the 14th right now but of course my phone and watch say 5:34 am on the 15th.
I had a snooze for 45 minutes and we went out for dinner; Thai just downstairs. We're smack in the middle of Chinatown, but there's Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Lebanese ... you name it. There are pubs everywhere but the most common store, if you're counting, is UGG. They're everywhere; at least one in every block.
Mark Thomas posted the worldwide 1200k+ accumulations and I'm in the top 10, actually in a tie for 8th. Mark, Rick B and I are doing Sydney-Melbourne so there could be a huge tie for 6th if we all complete. Mark won't catch up to Ken Bonner this year -- Ken is 72 or so; Mark is in his 50's, I think -- Mark has a good shot at hitting 100.
