Sep 10 - in the barn and the basement

I had cleared things to roll the Whaler trailer into the barn when we arrived and then yesterday a.m. got the two kayaks up on the top shelf along with Aaron's other kayak and the windsurfer on the middle shelf.  It was a bit of a problem getting the kayaks up on that shelf single-handedly but eventually figured out an easy way.  I stood the kayak on end and bungied it to a rafter, loosely.  I could then lift the other end, swing it around, get it onto the shelf and then undo the bungie and voila.  Necessity is the mother of invention ... or lack of upper body physical strength is the mother of finding an easier way :).

What took the most time for this exercise was undoing all the tie-downs, ropes and gorilla tape from the trailer !  Aaron had done a great job and I probably spent as much time untying as he did tying.  I could have saved time by cutting all the 1/4" rope but no, all those pieces have been saved, for what, I don't know.

Later in the day I did the last bit of plumbing for which I had purchased brass parts, eliminating some of the hodge podge of reinforced 1" ID hose and hose clamps.  This exercise ended without any drips and the previous exercise seems to have mostly corrected itself.  The one remaining drip is slower than evaporation.

It was a not-so-nice day and we had a fire in the wood stove making it nice and cozy.  I'd forgotten to turn off the A/C and it kicked in at one point ... quickly fixed ! I put on a fire this morning as well but it's a tad warmer.  We got some drizzle at times yesterday but I made sure that Cassie got some exercise.  With the weather turning cooler she doesn't sit on the deck so much anymore; wimp.  She's a Florida dog and of course Sandy has been trimming fur because of all the matted areas from pine sap.  Still, she gets more exercise here than in Florida.

The last part of the aformentioned trailer exercise was to juggle trailers to prep for the winter.  The 4x6 has been moved down close to the house but before I did that, I replaced the tires/rims which were completely worn out.  Even the Whaler trailer is in place now but w/o the Whaler.  I'll get that in the barn after David is here just before we leave.  Everything looks like it fits nicely and I'll have room to park the SUV in there, which is a must at Christmas.  I had tail-light problems on the Whaler trailer and picked up another set at Canadian Tire.  The left one only has a couple of the multiple LED's lighting up and causes a rapid flash of the blinker.  More to the point, with so little lit up, it would be hard to see the left turn signal. I don't know when I'll have that trailer on the road again but want to address the issue before I need it.

Onward !
