It was another day of odds and ends. I did some more trimming - mangroves and bananas. For the former, I was trimming the high portions; for the latter, the low dead leaves. I'd had to chase Cassie's ball down there a few times and got tired of digging through the old leaves. They hang down, making a kind-of skirt.
It was Black Friday, so I didn't go to any stores. I'm crazy but not that much. I did some online shopping though, on a variety of websites including ebay, Excel Cycle Sports, Jenson, Amazon etc. I shop for the best price, including shipping. I'm still doing some cleanup and parts replacement from all my cycling. Pedals need work, bearings for a wheel that started squealing under load, bearings, etc. etc. I really should replace my Luxos light at some point; hopefully it will not give out catastrophically in the middle of some ride, beyond my ability to get by with my spare.
I did some cycling shoe research but didn't come to any conclusions. It's hard to find very wide cycling shoes. Even the "extra wide" say an extra 4mm ... 4mm ? That's not enough to notice ! I'm trying to break-in a pair that I bought a couple of years ago but they're not really wide enough. My current shoes will give out (catastrophically) one of these days and I'll finish up a ride with them held together by duct tape.
Cassie got a lot of exercise from the chair, lots of short throws across the yard and then from the boat. The tide was extremely high, almost over the decking on the dock. If we weren't on a little lagoon, waves would have been over top. Low tide, yesterday, was like high tide in the Spring.
I replaced the windshield wipers on the X5, something that I was supposed to have done in the Spring before heading north but they were forgotten in the garage. Oil arrived yesterday along with filter for both cars, so that's a chore in the not-too-distant future. I'll have to do the X5 before heading north for Christmas, which reminds me that I need to call them about the particulate filter. I've also got to pick up some DEF and top that up. I'm still running on the Spring top-up. A full tank of DEF should last around 15k miles so doing it now means that I won't be doing it in the cold.
The local stores don't carry the right oil for the X5 Diesel, or the filter, so I order them online. Everyone carries the oil for the M5. Canadian Tire does carry the X5 oil, interestingly enough, but I think that it runs $12 CAD per liter.
Speaking of the north, it has been cold up there, hitting 0F, but the next couple of days it's back up over freezing. I'm hoping that we have ice for Christmas. Jerry tells me that the crazies are already out ice fishing in Wisconsin ... must be very thin ice !
There's always more ... lots of chasing around yesterday for Randonneurs Ontario. Info is due shortly, like within two business days, to get 2019 going. I was hoping to do some work this weekend but the Ontario Cycling Association says "link will be available soon" ... yeah right, give me a deadline but don't let me do it. Frustrating.
That's life. Onward !
