I went into town to mail the Eastern Europe ISR patches, all four of them. I used a larger envelope, to make it look more official, but couldn't use a tracking service because it's too expensive. I thought that I was going to be able to do Registered Mail but that would have come to $23 CAD per, which is ridiculous. If these fail to arrive, I'll look at shipping options in the US.
Then I went to the LCBO and emptied the back of the SUV, clearing out all those wine bottles. As an afterthought, I picked up some Top-n-bond at HHBC to fix that crumbling concrete top step.
It was interesting to hear that Registered Mail isn't a US option anymore, just within Canada and International (non US). Presumably that's because the service isn't available within the US either. Registered Mail within Canada is $9.99 CAD, I think. I was prepared to pay that.
I also put through the last of the Randonneurs Ontario 2019 expenses - two from me and one from Vytas, so I can close the books on September 30 with all the transactions that I'm going to process for this fiscal year. I know that there's money outstanding from CCN. I don't accrue for that. I do accrue for the ACP invoice ... I wish that I could somehow switch that to cash. It's just not necessary to do any accruals when everything else is on a cash basis.
I watched a lot of the McGuire grilling by Congress. Why anyone would take one of those jobs, I don't know. Yes I do know. Power. The desire to step up and take on more responsibility, without thinking about the personal consequences - I'm guilty of that.
It rained in Loring when I was there. It was sunny at the cottage. It was also windy at the cottage and the gutters are filling up again. Grrr. I cleared the one by the kitchen front and installed the gutter thingys that David gave me for Christmas. That took half of the package. I'll put the balance on the back and we'll see if they help.
We were tinkering with ideas for travel, perhaps that Thailand trip will be me going for the ride and then Sandy joining me afterwards. Once she sends the kids home, she'll fly to Bangkok. That probably makes more sense than flying back and then immediately taking on the kids, still recovering from the 11 hour time change. We also looked at flights to India with various departures. India is on her bucket list. It's not really on my riding bucket list, having heard what riding in India is like, but with so many choices, that could change (they ran 15 x 1200k's in 2019). There's actually a direct flight from Toronto to New Delhi but we'd probably be leaving from Florida. Other options, depending on the departure point and airline, change planes everywhere under the sun. Heathrow, Dubai, Newark / JFK, Frankfurt, Amsterdam ... I was wondering whether flying from LAX might make sense and we'd visit out there first, as we did before flying to Sydney, but flights typically fly east from there to India. The time difference from Eastern is 9 1/2 (yeah, 1/2, like Newfoundland !). They don't do Daylight Savings so it would be different in November.
The bucket list keeps growing. We haven't even seen all of North America !
Anyhoooo ... it did rain here late in the day, the predicted chance of showers, but all in all it was a comfortable day outside albeit a little cool and verrrry windy. It wasn't so bad here but when I went out for a boat ride with Cassie, the cross waves in Smiths Bay were up to 3'. It was a slow trip back. Before going out, I had a difficult time getting the motor started. The bulb is very soft and squishy. I knew that I had a problem and had purchased two new bulbs before coming north in the spring - one bulb is soft and another is so hard you can barely squish it. So I changed the bulb, finally using one of those two, and all was well. I also needed to top up the gas tank -- it took the better part of an hour to get going :).
Onward ... I guess. Sandy is planning on groceries in Sudbury today. I have no specific plans. It looks like more showers, so I won't get out on the bike. I need a haircut and there's wine to pickup in Parry Sound. If I get cabin fever, I'll head there.
