I decided to put the Bayliner into the barn this year rather than the Whaler. That will make it easier, last minute, to get packed up. The kayaks can also go into the boathouse on top of the Whaler. That doesn't work with the bigger boat.
The 12' boat was on the Bayliner trailer, dwarfed but it worked. So now I had to move that boat to the smaller trailer. How do you do that without getting it wet, so to speak ?
I figured that I could always dump it onto the ground and then drag it onto the other trailer but after a bit of study, I realized that I could jack it up over the trailer and move the trailer out from under it. That had to be done in stages, moving the jacks when they were going to hit a cross member of the trailer. It actually didn't take all that long, all done and the boat never left the barn.
Ok, that finished, I hooked the bigger trailer to the car, launched the Bayliner from the boathouse and took it for a short spin. I was going to head to Jason's dock but whoops ... cables in the way. No problem, I docked it by the gazebo and then Sandy joined me for a spin down Smith's Bay. I usually get down there a lot but haven't been fishing even once this year. Heading home, Sandy got out and pulled the trailer down to Ess Narrows and I drove the boat down. Once home, I did some more juggling and it's now nicely in the barn, everything packed in tight, and the X5 fits - I always get the barn ready, space-wise, for the X5 for our winter arrival.
Had the barn been just a couple of feet longer ... no, that would have simply meant more "stuff" or sloppier packing.
It's fascinating when you think that the original cottage was 20x20 and the barn is 20x40, twice the size.
Anyhoo ... all that occupied a chunk of time yesterday. I really didn't do anything else productive :).
Onward !
