I believe that it's hotter than I've experienced it at the end of March, but memory is short with regard to these things. High snowbanks, hot, cold, wet ... somehow with weather, everything is magnified. The only true measure is the accurate stats afterwards.
Jerry and I did get out for another 100k, well actually 113k. We are back before noon, before it really started to swelter, and he was heading back to Macon GA within the hour. Shower, change, load truck, lunch and off he goes. I didn't hear from him for the rest of the day but presume that he arrived safely. I'll check in with him later.
We tried a whatsapp video chat with David and Vanda and that worked quite well. They're ok; Vanda's mom is back home after a pneumonia scare. David is somewhat laid off as nobody returns calls right now. Vanda, as a teacher, is equally at home. It's getting tighter and tighter all around.
The US will shortly surpass China in deaths. It was only a couple of days ago that we crossed the case threshold. At one point a neighbor said that they didn't trust the Chinese numbers, that they were probably counting deaths from all causes. Would that argument now change to undercounting ? Do we continue to change arguments to suit our version of the facts, such as coming out of Washington ? A little over a month ago this was going to be over shortly ... "it's a miracle" ... now the story has changed to we deserve congrats if we keep the death count under 100k. This is pretty bad.
RUSA work continues, of course, on multiple fronts. In the absence of other activities, the email conversations explode just like a virus.
I was going to go to the grocery store yesterday, but didn't. I did get the dogs over to the sandbar ... oh wait, there are so many boats and kids that we had to find another sandbar, which we did. I can't imagine the negative doggy feedback if I'd just come home.
Sheryl clears out of her rental tomorrow and has been gradually moving stuff back here. Then her intent is to stay here for a few days before heading north, taking her time.
Onward !
