On the 13th I did some aggressive mangrove trimming on the island. Now I look like the cat got to me. Perhaps I should have been wearing long pants and long sleeves ?
On the 14th I rode. We were expecting thunderstorms but they stayed north of us. The day started out at 77F and only went up from there to over 90F. Once home and showered, I took Cassie to the sandbar. The water temp in front of us was 84F; out in the channel, 80F. This morning the temp is 74F ... it won't drop much below that going forward as the water temp moderates.
David suggested that we come north ... to 35F and snow / sleet / rain. Nope. It may be hotter than we'd like but it's better than sitting inside, albeit cozy with a fire up north.
I see that Canada also has new restrictions on travelers effective midnight today, a few hours ago. Without an acceptable quarantine plan they'll force you to go to a hotel. I believe that we'll have an acceptable plan but if we have to stay in a hotel for 2 weeks, c'est la vie.
Quote of the day from Sandy - "maybe takeout isn't a great idea; I have nothing to do". We had takeout sushi from the place in the SR44 Publix strip mall. It was good but they were incredibly busy. I called after placing the online order and they said that it would be 25 minutes. Ok, so I gave them 30 minutes. I wasn't worried about sushi getting cold. It took 70 minutes. I stood outside with a bunch of other people (not really a great idea), half of whom were either Door Dash or Uber Eats delivery people. Perhaps the best idea with sushi is ordering mid afternoon and then putting it in the fridge !
The only other takeout that we might try is Papa John's pizza. Takeout isn't the same as eating in the restaurant, for most things, never quite as good. Pizza is pizza. We never eat out for pizza ! Then again, we don't have pizza very often since I cut back on carbs.
Early in the day I did the Walmart / Publix swing. I needed cheese; we needed dish soap. Sandy had found the cupboard bare at the beachside Publix vis-a-vis Ivory. Oh yes, I also needed motor oil. I figured that the price per container of Mobil 1, 5w30 would be cheaper in person than delivered, and it was.
I had looked at Amazon where they had a 2 pack of Ivory, totaling 38.8 oz, for $17.99. 46 cents per oz. Today they have a 3 pack, 24 oz each, for $19.99 or $6.66 each / 28 cents per oz. (the latter wasn't on Amazon yesterday). Walmart price ? $2.67 for the 24 oz container. 11 cents per oz. I guess that in these days of extreme hand washing, soap is a hot item.
Our marina has re-opened forklift services on limited days, limited basis. You have to call ahead the day before for a time slot and they are limited. Based on your time slot, you have a return slot. If you're late by more than 5 minutes, they pull you out of the water. If I want my batteries back, that would be next day. They do the wash. Overboard ? Yes. Perhaps. It's their call. For now we'll use the skiff. Another alternative would be to leave the boat at the SYC for a couple of days and then return. Unfortunately it doesn't fit in our sling ...
Onward.
