Sheryl made it up to Oneonta NY last night, about 4 hours from home. I think that I might have kept going :). We've stopped 4-5 hours from NSB on the way south, but these are different times. We usually stop 4-5 hours from the cottage, rather than arrive at night - especially in the winter. Apparently teh roads are empty ... not ... lots of trucks. Hotel breakfasts are a few prepackaged things. Shery'l has been eating sandwiches that she made before leaving here.
I did my usual Merritt Island / Trail loop yesterday. Although boring, it's safe. I'm seeing more KSC (Kennedy Space Center) vehicles patrolling the area than ever before. Along the approach to the bridge to Titusville the beach on the north side was still open but not crowded, cars mostly but not all, well spaced. I think that the beaches are still open here but not for cars. We should really go and see ... just for something to do !
I was just reading this article about a lady taking a flight from Washington to Boston to visit her dying mother. She was worried about flying but the airport was empty. She was worried about being on an airplane, but she was the only passenger - both ways. They bumped her to first class and addressed her by name in the pre-flight briefing. Nice story. Sometimes hardship brings out the best in people ... sometimes.
From an online source: A second death was reported in Volusia County, while the total number of coronavirus cases in the state swelled to 11,545 on Saturday with the addition of 1,277 new cases, according to the Florida Department of Health. In Volusia County, 131 residents have tested positive for the virus including a Stetson University student, a Daytona Beach firefighter and an Ormond Beach resident who was isolated at AdventHealth Palm Coast in Flagler County two weeks ago.Volusia County also has three non-residents who tested positive. There are 33 Volusia County residents who have been hospitalized, according to the FDOH.
Just southwest of us, in Orange County, there are many more cases. But of course that's because of the huge population of Orlando. Compare Florida (11,545 & 195) with all of Canada, with just over 14,000 cases and 233 deaths.
A light rain today; first in over a month.
Onward !
