Apr 9-11 - and repeat

I've been riding every second day; Sandy does her almost-daily walks; we are shopping as little as possible; Cassie has been getting to the sandbar most days; I've been a mangrove trimming tornado.  Sandy tackled some weeding yesterday.  That about sums it up !

I called the number that was in Sheryl's email regarding our warm or not-so-warm reception when we head north.  After being offline for a couple of minutes she read back to me the bumpf about foreign nationals but really couldn't say about Canadians.  She gave me a number to reach CBSA. I'll call that number eventually. We're still a month off from our normal departure date.

There were more cyclists out yesterday and Sandy reports many walkers.  People are looking for things to do; things to do outside of the house !  Riding down the NASA Parkway on Merritt Island, there were lots of motorcycles out yesterday.  I guess that the virus would have a hard time transmitting at 60mph; who knows.  I see cyclists wearing masks, which to me seems quite dumb but hey, each to his/her own.

I checked in with Philip yesterday.  He's been working 7 days a week, 12-14 hour days - procurement for the hospital system, of course.  He was telling tales of scams out there, fictional suppliers out of China.  I guess I'm not surprised.

Sandy has been having trouble with her phone - bad crackling etc.  We compared settings and the only difference seemed to be "calls on other devices", i.e. her iPad.  She turned that off and Sheryl reported a clear call.  Who knows.  We'll see if that really solves the problem.

Sandy picked up shrimp at the Norwoods market yesterday; paid for it on her walk and then picked it up later.  She had picked up some Mahi Mahi the other day and it was excellent last night, panko crusted, moist and flaky.  She does the Perrines (veggies), OceanS Seafood (fish) and for a change, Norwoods for fresh shrimp.  I'm the Publix / Walmart guy.

Philip was saying that Canadian Tire is curbside only, which is interesting.  I don't know about a place like Home Depot which is used by the contractors.  Here in NSB, they are open.  CT isn't a contractor place so I guess that they would be closed.  Walmart is open here probably by virtue of being a food supplier.  I don't know about other non food department stores ... there aren't too many of them left anymore !

Coronavirus-wise, Florida is way down the list for confirmed cases, 9th in the US.  At one point it was a hotspot but seemingly no more.  3rd in population, being way down the list is good.  According to the the chart, there are 5-9 cases in our zip code, 178 in the our county of 500+k people.  The chart actually shows number of hospital & ICU beds available; locally we're in pretty good shape.  Sandy was pretty nonchalant about it all until she found that her lung capacity is probably reduced from all those years of smoking.  I suspect that she's in better shape than most, at any age, and almost all, at her age.  Then again, we don't really want to find out !

 Onward ...
