May 3 - another nice one

Day after day, the weather is beautiful.  We're savoring it, watching the weather up north.  65F here this a.m.; 29F up north, heading to 83F and 43F respectively and then down to 63F and 19F ...

I rode yesterday, south again.  While on the Kennedy Parkway / Merritt Island, approaching the bridge over Haulover Canal, this string of Dodge Chargers or whatever they were went by, a good three dozen of them, must have been some sort of rally.  Then up ahead the bridge went up and they all stopped as I rode up alongside them towards the bridge.  Someone in a lead car was using a phone to video, standing up through the sunroof.

Smoke.  What the heck ?  Lots of black smoke.  Coming abreast, the car had its front brakes on and was spinning its rear wheels, producing the smoke.  What an idiot, probably the same guy who almost 50 years ago in Port Loring drove slowly around town with the front wheels barely moving and the rear wheels spinning.  I remember at the time thinking about the waste of tires, clearly a shortage of brain cells, and small town amusements ... and here we are again.

The fellow at the bridge must have been working overtime because there were a few strings of cars that went by, heading north and south.  I had wondered if there was a launch and cars were being turned around but no, just grouped together, but all told more traffic than usual.  Later, at home, the Intracoastal Waterway was crazy busy again.  It's nice to see activity but not this much activity.  I'm expecting that it will calm down.  People will have more to do than burn cheap gas.

Speaking of more to do, with the gradual reopening I have a dentist appointment at 9am - just cleaning.  I sure hope that they've all been careful !  I expect to see many masks but there's not much point in me wearing a mask for a mouth-open operation !

At some point I would expect to hear from our marina that they've relaxed things a bit and we can use that boat.  I just didn't want to deal with their restrictive rules, someone more in need to race up and down can have my time slot.  We'll use the skiff.

In other news ... there ain't any.  Oh, I did talk to Jerry; he left Macon GA about 2pm and was home by 4:40 a.m., no traffic in Nashville or Atlanta.  Google Maps says that it's a 16.5 hour trip and that's what it was.  With the cheap gas he was able to drive his honking big truck that distance for <$100.

That's about it ...
