May 4-6 - so what's new ?

Not a heck-of-a-lot.  I've been out on the bike, I've been trimming mangroves and picked away at a couple of computer-related projects.

On the mangrove front, Gene and I tackled the mangroves by his dock, knocking them down a good foot or so.  Yesterday, the 6th, I did some work on the island out front, working from the boat, both sides of the island.  Chipping away ...

On the computer front, I finally organized (semi) the 2019 pictures and year to date 2020 on my site, uploading from the camera and phone.  It's a bit of a hodge podge, with a handful of pictures from prior years that made it into the 2019 folder.  I probably haven't turned all the pictures right-side-up either.  My age-old process of running them through my old version of Photoshop to resize doesn't recognize orientation.  The D610 pictures and mangled in there with the iPhone pictures, the order is all messed up ... but at least there's some semblance of order by year.

I also did some more exploring with Linux and setup some better routine backup, both within each machine (laptop and desktop) and between machines.  I have one niggling problem (well, more than one) with Ubuntu 18.04 or, rather, the latest release of VMware, in that my windows machine won't blank screen / screensaver.  That wasn't a problem before, and 18.04 won't override that. It means that I must minimize Windows before leaving the desktop.

And ... I took delivery of another Panamalar camera and set that up. I think that ultimately I want a couple of indoor cameras up north as well as an outdoor camera.  Here in Florida one camera will suffice.  I don't think that I could install an outdoor camera that would survive the salt.  Nothing survives the salt.

Today is Thursday, even though the blog is through Wednesday.  Tomorrow, Friday, the Tiki will be open ... that should be interesting.  Spaced out tables, a hostess, no congregating at the bar ... I believe that Sandy is keen on a burger.

It's not about saving people.  It's about saving hospitals.  That's really what the lockdown has been about, although I guess that saving hospitals means that some people would live through the disease who might have died with hospitals overwhelmed.   Talking to my friend Alex the other day, I hadn't realized how much things have been locked down in Ontario.  Home Depot, Canadian Tire, curbside delivery only.  I'm not sure that was necessary from the standpoint of risk inside the store, but the more things are closed, the more people will stay at home because there's nothing else to do !

Here is Florida, at least, the hardware stores have been open.  Essential ?  Who knows.  Yes essential for the contractors but not necessarily for those simply puttering. That said, I feel safer in the big, wide open Home Depot (or Walmart) than at Publix, our grocery store.

I'm dithering.  I could keep writing but it's going downhill.  Onward !
