The prior day I had cut up the basswood, maple and large pine branch; now it was time to do something with it. Gotta love the 4-wheeler. I hauled the pine trash up to the back as well as the pine pieces that are good firewood. Doing some trailer juggling, I extricated the splitter but before moving it out of the barn, I made sure that it would start. I wasn't even through one pull and it fired up. Amazing, for a Harbor Freight engine !
I then busied myself for an hour or two splitting about 3/4 of the wood. Huge pieces all, I've got quite a pile of split wood on the barn side of the driveway. I was pretty wasted by that point and put away the splitter. The other 1/4, on the other side of the driveway, will keep me busy some other day. Piling ... well who knows.
Another minor chore was moving the Whaler into the boathouse. There's no point in it sitting in the water. I've got the battery on charge.
Sandy continued her work in the garden, weeding and weeding. I'd use roundup myself in the area where she's not planting this year. I'm not sure that she's buying that.
A touch of bug spray kept them clear of me while I was working. It was hot but a running engine will usually draw the bugs; not that day however. Later on, at dinner, there were quite a few around the grill but not too bad. We basically missed the black fly season and since it's been dry, the skeeters aren't as bad as usual ... as long as you aren't in the bush, that is.
No covid contact from the government(s) on Friday. Perhaps that's the calm before the police show up and check; lull us into complacency !
Onward ....
