The 12th was a busy day. Tony Hummel came and took down the birch out front that would have hit the gazebo had it come down on its own. In the process one branch hit the close edge of the roof, so I've got some minor repairs to do in the spring. Had I been smarter, I would have brought down some plywood and put it on the roof as we did working on the tree over the barn this summer. Hindsight is great.
After Tony left, I made good use of the little electric chainsaw and piled the brush and chunks of the main trunk. More firewood. I hope to do work on the tree beside that went down by itself, once the ice is thick enough to work out there. For that I'll probably use the "real" chainsaw.
The Texas low hit us hard. The meteorologists were calling it a Texas low. What a snow dumping ! We got well over a foot. I cleaned the deck and stairs three times and they'll need another cleaning this morning. The driveway will take a couple of hours with the snowblower. Oh well; we're not going anywhere anyway. Tony's timing was good. It was blowing and snowing lightly while he was working but the really heavy snow wasn't until later.
I told him to be careful going home to Trout Creek with the blowing snow. He said that he'd be stopping in town "you know Jake" ... "yes" ... "He's my father-in-law". Everyone in Port Loring is related.
Our daily checkin continues. 5am sharp each day we get an email reminding us to confirm our health status. We've only had the one other series of emails from the chief public health officer and the couple of robo calls. 5 more days and we're free !
Onward.
