Mar 8 - Bike Week

Well, of course Sunday 3/8 wasn't bike week, it was only one day ... but ... it was as busy as I've seen it in a long time.  Jam packed in Daytona; tons of traffic through Tomoka Park ... can one transmit / ingest enough virus particles riding a motorcycle to pick up covid ?  Time will tell.

I ended up doing some sidewalk riding through the area as motorcycles often take up the extreme right of the lane with their legs when they're standing in traffic ... and there was a lot of standing in traffic.  That meant that I did a lot of slow crawl standing on the pedals - slow crawl standing hasn't been an issue; the issue is real climbing on the causeways.  So my back is a little sore this morning.  Not my leg; not my knee; just my back.

The other issue yesterday was the wind.  4 hours northbound for half of a 122km ride; 2:15 southbound.  That would have been 2:00 except for the aforementioned standing and waiting at traffic lights.  Apart from that, I cruised with the wind pressing at my back noticeable even when over 20mph.  I could have been faster except for the fact that I was tired from the trip north.  However ... I knew what I signed up for !  I wanted to get out yesterday because today is V-Day - vaccine.

The ocean was wild in Flagler Beach with the northeast wind.  Huge waves crashed on the beach.

Publix is well organized.  Sandy got a phone call to tell her that the person right after me had cancelled and did she want that appointment ?! Yes, they have even kept track that we're together.  Before that, she was an hour later.  Good deal !

We did our usual last night, eating at the Tiki.  They've done very well with their specials.  Last night it was seared tuna sandwich.  She didn't even have to go through the rest of the specials.  As usual, we sat at the bar.  That 20-30mph wind was from the north so we were protected.  Good thing because the temp was 56F. Sandy suggested that we might eat at home but I said "c'mon, we're Canadians, 56F is balmy".  So we did.  The radiant heater helped too :).

It's windy again today but more like 15mph.  I'll get Cassie out to the sandbar today.

Onward ...
