Apr 7-9 - too much fun

NZ 1200 is done with me.

I did 775 kms before throwing in the towel.  I knew that there was a good chance that there was too much climbing, long and steep, too soon in my recovery.  I had an upcoming 10km climb in the dark and then another 100k in the alpine to get to the 3rd day overnight.  Cold, light rain coming, 5-6000 feet more climbing … Life's too short for this much fun.

I'm more philosophical about these things after surviving my October crash.

Traffic was very heavy this Easter weekend. Everyone and their trailer, camper, boat, kayak was on the road. There are few shoulders.

I've seen a lot of NZ and will see more before leaving.
